First Dunk
The first official dunk in a college women's
basketball game, in 1984, by Georgeann Wells of West Virginia. Why haven't you heard of it before? Because
it was only filmed by the opposing coach's staff, and not wanting to be posterized, he hid it away till he died.
But he never destroyed it, and the reporter's call to his son jogged a memory, and thus it's now been found. Watch
through the reporter's video on the WSJ link, and you will see a small-format version of the grainy original. Hopefully,
the owner is negotiating with ESPN now for an enhanced version.
Suggested reading for those looking for more old-school basketball.
